Greys GTS 900 is rated out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by DS2018 from Flawed There's much to admire in this reel. The overall aesthetics are fine, as is the classy gunmetal finish. The weight (I have the #6/7/8) is just right - light but you can still feel it. So what's the let-down? In brief, the bits in the middle. Too much plastic in evidence for this standard of reel, and a really disappointing spool release mechanism, which consists of a cheap-feeling metal flange on a spring. This rasps horribly against the spindle when removing the spool, and just feels so wrong on what is supposed to be Grey's flagship reel. It seems this feature was rushed or not thought through properly in the design phase, and at this price point that's a major issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rhinoking from A Hardy reel with a Greys logo I bought this reel a GTS900 4/5/6 size to upgrade from my original cheap entry level GTS300. I'm an aerospace mechanical engineer, so can appreciate both the build and it's aesthetics. To counteract another person's review mentioning rasping spool release and plastic parts; the spool release lever is stainless steel, neat, simply press down with finger tip (not those awkward sideways activated fingernail operation ones) and the action is positive. Definitely no rasping. The only visible plastic parts with the spool off are two spring loaded detent clicker rods (white PTFE most probably) to give the audible sounds. If they were metal, they would scratch the anodised finish of the mating spool, so a sound design, not a cheap design. This reel is as good looking and works as well as it's more expensive Hardy cousins. A classy choice at a reasonable price (in fly fishing terms at least), so thoughly recommended.
