Rated 4 out of 5 by Weevist from needs larger reel seat Just bought this and from the perspective of build quality and action it's a lovely rod, the problem came when I tried putting a reel on it. First attempt was with an Abu Cardinal SX30, not a large reel by any stretch of the imagination. It just about went on but didn't really feel that secure. Next, tried to put an old Mitchell 300 on, the reel foot was too long for the seat. Finally went to my trusty Shimano Exage 3000. This went on better than the Abu but still not really as securely as I would like. The conclusion is that the reel seat needs to be a size bigger. As it is, a really nice rod is marred by the too small reel seat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Irish Angler from Weevist Review The issue with an inadequate reel seat is not restricted to the Prodigy model. I have been committed to using Hardy and Greys rods since the early 1980's. However I recently had the misfortune to purchase a Greys 9 ft spinning rod by mail order and was disappointed that none of my reels could be securely fitted to the reel seat. On referring the issue to the supplier they were unaware that there was a problem. I have never fished with the rod in question as I have no confidence in the capability of the reel seat to adequately secure a reel. My rods of choice are now those manufactured by others which disappoints me greatly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ukzero1 from Superb handling. I bought a Prodigy TXL, just out of curiosity, I soon ordered another to match it.These rods are really nice Barbel tamers to say the least, even on the Trent. I was told by a fishing friend that the reel seat "could be a bit dodgy"..in that they seem a bit small, but my Shimano 6000's fit really nicely with no issues at all. When the rod top goes over, I have every confidence in landing the culprit that did it. Lovely playing action on a nice progressive blank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Daveylad from TXL Specimen 1.50lb 12' - Excellent Rods Having used a pair of these rods for well over a year, I have nothing but praise for them. They have the backbone to throw a heavy method feeder 70 yards or so. 3oz leads - no problem. I have caught bream, barbel and zander into double figures and they are my "go to" rods for these species. They are not as forgiving in the closing moments of the fight as some but the more "tippy" action allows a longer casting distance than a typical through action rod would attain. They are good-looking with the graphics not overstated and the slim cork handle is a joy to handle.
